Steve James is a musician and luthier who established Steven James Guitars in 2006 after having spent eight years managing the guitar department of the Guitar, Amp and Keyboard Centre in Brighton.

A renowned musician, Steve was bassist with the Dogs D’Amour between 1986 and 1992 and has also carried out work as a guitar technician for The Levellers – building a custom guitar for lead singer, Marc Chadwick:

“This is my boy dream guitar - the guitar I have always dreamed for - and it was hand built by Steve James of the Dogs D'Amour…”

Steve is also an expert in the restoration of vintage instruments and Steven James Guitars features an onsite repair service.

After having toured the world with a number of bands, Steve always planned to return to his Teesside roots:

“I decided to return to my home town and create the kind of music shop which I would have wanted to visit and hang out in when I was a professional musician.”
